An inner psychological journey through the myths that are connected with the magical island of Crete. Stories among Gods, Heroes and Mortals that left traces in the epic tradition and in the archaeological remains accompanied with mythical monsters like Giants, Mermaids, Nymphs and Sirens, may be still relevant in our need to discover the Truth. The series of lectures will be mainly about the legends of Zeus, Minos, Minotaur and Labyrinth. As for excursions we will visit Knossos and the renovated archaeological museum at Heraklion and if we have one more day available we will organise to go at Anogia and visit the cave that Zeus was born.
Teacher: Alan Parkinson
Alan Parkinson has always painted as far back as he can remember. He trained at Canterbury (BA Hons) and Chelsea (MA) art colleges as well as Bretton Hall (PGCE) and now teaches Art part-time at Central School of Ballet. He is also an Iyengar Yoga teacher. His Art work varies but he tends to paint with acrylics. When in Crete he paints the landscape & Cretan still-life’s.The Art course will experiment with different techniques & investigate different media. Subjects will be people, still-life’s & the landscape. All levels of experience are welcome. Bring an open mind & it will be fun (not hard work).
